Cold weather travel is always more complex than warm weather travel. You run a greater risk of flight delays, there’s less day light to go out in, the weather can be iffy, and packing takes a bit of strategic thought. Still, winter travel is often a lot cheaper so it’s a great strategy to see some amazing sites when you’re on a budget. I’ve had my fair share of winter travels (Amsterdam, Prague , NYC) and on my latest trip to England finally nailed down my winter travel essentials!
When I found out we were going to England I was a bit nervous seeing that we were traveling in February and the UK isn’t exactly known for its delightful weather, but we got so lucky! The sun followed us around and we didn’t have to deal with any rain or snow during our stay. Still I packed and was prepared for anything so read on for more details.
Winter Travel Essentials
If you’re interested, the items hyperlinked below are the exact goodies I own and love!
Warm Hooded Coat
A coat with a hood is an absolute must when traveling in the winter since you’re likely to encounter either rain or snow. I love this coat from H&M, its only $45.00 and I bought it solely for its deep hood. I love it !
Blanket Scarf
This doubles as a cozy blanket on the plane and also keeps the wind out when exploring the world. On our trip we made a visit to Dover Castle and encountered 30 mile winds – this scarf helped keep me warm!
Wool Sweater
A thick wool sweater may take up extra space in your carry on, but when you’re out exploring a new city in cold weather, you’ll be glad you had a nice chunky sweater to keep you warm. If you really do have trouble fitting things in your carry on, just wear it on the plane to save space.
Vlando Jewelry Case
I recently found this jewelry case and love how classy it looks. It fits all my jewelry and I was even able to squeeze in a little sample size of my favorite Chole perfume.
Knit Sweater Dress
Paired with some warm leggings a knit sweater dress is a must since it can be dressed up or down. The grey one I got here is from Marshalls and only $15.
Cross body bag
I got this Madewell Crossbody Bag as a Christmas gift and it is my new go-to travel purse. It’s the perfect size. I can’t fit too much in it so I’m not lugging around a heavy bag all day. But it’s just roomy enough for things like a book or my camera.
Water-proof boots
When you travel in the winter save your cute shoes for a warm weather trip and bring a pair of waterproof boots. I have loved my Frye boots from the very moment I found them on sale (75% off) at Nordstrom Rack. To save space in your carryon wear the boots on the plane!
Black Turtle Neck
It’s a perfect layering piece! For an easy look pair it with all black jeggings and boots and you’ll looks so stylish.
Fingerless Gloves
I love wearing these since they help keep my hands warm but leave my fingers free for picture taking and texting.
