The last few weekends have been filled with weddings, camping, and day trips. So when I checked my planner last Thursday night I was so relieved to see that I had no plans for Friday or Saturday. I’m all for having fun and enjoying activity filled weekends – but its also important to learn when to sleep in and just stay home. So that’s exactly what I did
On Saturday morning Ted and I slept in till 9am (this is late for us). We headed down for our weekend coffees. We live just above a Starbucks and have made a habit of rolling out of bed in the morning and shuffling our way downstairs to get our caffeine fix. I then spent the rest of the day bookmaking while watching all seven episodes of HBO’s Big Little Lies.
I was able to make four books (I’m getting faster!) but probably could have made more had I not been so distracted by how good a show Big Little Lies is. The story itself is a bit cliche – a murder mystery surrounding a group of wealthy, privileged women who are displeased with their seemingly “perfect” lives. But the combination of the storytelling, cast, oceanic scenery, and the awesome soundtrack make this show so binge worthy.
In the late afternoon Ted and I headed to church with my folks, went for an evening swim at the local pool, and then continued our wild Saturday with an evening trip to the grocery store. I love grocery shopping on Saturday nights – you have the whole store to yourself and somehow feel productive. When we got home we rented the movie The Martian – (this was Ted’s pick, not mine) but it actually ended up being pretty good.
Sunday morning started again at Starbucks and we headed over to the Farmer’s Market across the street. It runs every Sunday from June to October and I try to visit each week to walk through the stalls and find anything unique. I love farmers markets! The rest of the day was spent packing for our vacation to upstate New York next week and doing some research for an upcoming trip to Munich & Vienna this Fall.
I then did some household cleaning and gardening maintenance. I hate coming home to a messy house after a trip and know I won’t have a lot of time this week to get things clean so this was the weekend to get things ready and prep. Ted then dragged me out of the house to go play some tennis. We’re not very good but try to get a good volley going. We played best two out of three – Ted’s way better than I am. I almost never win , but my goal is to put up a good fight each time. After we ended up visiting with each of our parents for a couple of hours (the perks of living so close!) and then ended the night on the couch in front of the TV.
All in all it was a solid weekend — slow and quiet in the best of ways. The next few weekends are filled with more trips and weddings so this was a much needed break ! Have a great week everyone !
