Skin care is one of my passions. I spend hours investigating how natural and non-natural ingredients work on different skin types. In fact, I’d love to be an esthetician. Every day I make a point to moisturize, wear sun screen, and invest in quality products. I’ve never really looked to makeup to fix my skin problems. Instead, I’ve chosen to invest in quality skin care products. The way I see it, your skin is like a canvas and makeup is like paint. Why spend hundreds of dollars on paint only to apply it onto a dollar store canvas? So while I don’t splurge on clothes and makeup, I do confess that skincare is where I’m willing to spend some cash.
Personally I’ve always had dry skin and am looking for products that drench my skin in the hydration it needs, its also probably why I’m so envious of girls with a natural dewy glow – I think its so pretty! So for all of you out there who suffer from dry skin, or are just curious to discover some new products – I’ve shared my favorite staples that work!
Sunscreen – Paula’s Choice Skin Recovery Daily Moisturizing Lotion, SPF 30
First things first! Sunscreen — I cannot stress how important it is to avoid the sun if you want to preserve the quality of your skin. And if you can’t enjoy the shade then please make sure you wear sun screen. What I hate most about sunscreens is the heavy / chalky feeling that most give you if you put on too much. So even though I’m looking to stay moisturized I don’t want to feel like I need to shower . I’ve tried tons of day time moisturizers with SPF and so far my favorite comes form Paual’s Choice — one of my favorite skin brands. The company was founded by Paula Begoun, a skin guru who’s company believes in educating their users about skin care ingredients and what they do to your skin. The website has an Ingredient Dictionary that you can use to look up ingredients and learn about the skin benefits each gives – it helps you understand what’s going on your skin and compare products. Their Skin Recovery sunscreen works — its leaves my skin feeling moisturized and smooth! Plus it has spf 30 — which in the summer I reapply twice throughout the day!
Serum – Resist Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum
This stuff is amazing. I use it first thing in the morning under my sunscreen and at night before I moisturize. Since I’ve started using it twice a day I’ve noticed a noticeable improvement in my skin, it stays hydrated for longer and seems clearer. Its not exactly cheap, but like I said, my skin is important to me and its worth it. I’d argue that serums are more important than moisturizers. Due to their make up, serums contain smaller molecules that penetrate into the skin better than a moisturizer can. Simply put – more of the good stuff can get into your skin! The product is packed with antioxidants which helps prevent and fix damage to the skin. So why not put it on twice a day? 🙂
Moisturizer – Mizon Snail Wrinkle Care Sleeping Pack
If I don’t use a moisturizer at night I wake up with my skin feeling dry and tight. After using Mizon, I wake up with skin that feels hydrated and almost dewy to the touch. The Mizon product comes from Korea – and let me tell you this country is light years ahead of us in terms of skin care. This product really does have some “snail juice”as I like to call it. It sounds gross, but let me tell you, after using it my skin feels the way it does after a facial: smooth and hydrated.
Facial Oil – Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil
I love using facial oils if my skin feels dry in the middle of the day. I used to use Trilogy’s Rose Hip Oil but recently got the opportunity to try Ordinary’s Rose Hip oil from c.j over at her new boutique Shop-Parcel – and its a great, more affordable alternative to the Trilogy brand. Don’t expect rose hip oil to smell like roses. In fact if it does, you don’t have good oil and its been mixed with scent that is damaging to the skin. This Rose Hip oil comes in clean and minimal packaging and gives my skin the moisture boost it usually needs around the middle of the day. I’d recommend keeping a vial at work or in your purse !
Face Masks – Ariul 7 Day Mask
Face masks have recently becoming popular in the US – but they have been used in Korea for a really long time. My little sister introduced me to them and this is my favorite brand. There is a 7 day Mask set that you can use to find which product works best for you (from green tea to lemon) but my favorite is the moisturizing avocado. I do a face mask every Sunday night and skip the moisturizer that night – that’s how nicely these masks work!
If any of you enjoy skin care as much as me let me know some of your favorite products. I’m always willing to try something new !

Great post! I also splurge on skincare products. Do you have an recommendations for eye cream? I’ve tried a few products that are pretty good, but I don’t love them. Would love to hear your thoughts. xoxo
I’m glad you liked it !!! So for eye cream I do a few weird things – I start with taking off my eye makeup with almond or coconut oil. This way Im cleaning but also moisturizing my eyes ! I’ve used Aveda’s Botanicals Kinetics Eye cream and liked it ! (http://m.aveda.com/product/17736/34715/skin-care/eye-creme/botanical-kinetics-energizing-eye-creme#/shade/.5_fl_oz%2F15_ml). When you’re shopping for eye cream never buy products from jars and instead look for closed air opaque tubes because it’s better for the anti aging ingredients in the product. A lot of brands use jars and once their open to the air the antioxidants and products aren’t as effective !
I love your essentials. I want all of them! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much! Hope it helps you with your purchases 🙂
