I am a lover of all things Fall. Always an oddball, I welcome the chill in the air, the rainy days, and love seeing the leaves change color. For the past few years I’ve been traveling during my favorite season. Two years ago we were in Peru and last year central Europe so I haven’t gotten to enjoy a calm local Fall to the fullest. This year we don’t have plans to travel so I’ve made a Fall Bucket List that I’m sharing for inspiration!
Indulge in pumpkin spice everything
Yes, I am this person. Sorry to disappoint but I am 100% on the pumpkin spice bandwagon. Yes I know “pumpkin spice” has become a bit of an annoying craze but all I have to say is its a craze for a reason: it tastes so good! I pretty much love all of those ‘fall’ spices. Cinnamon, nutmeg, chai. All of those hearty, wholesome spices are great but pumpkin spice is king.
Go apple picking
The last time I went apple picking it was for my bachelorette party back in 2015. I’m dying to go again so if it sounds like your cup of tea let me know and let’s go!
Go on as many fall walks as possible
I’m really looking forward to going for a walk and not sweating. Breathing in the cool crisp air always refreshes and energizes me. This autumn you’ll probably find me wearing my boots, a hat, and sweater while frolicking somewhere with Winston at a local forest preserve.
Baking
Things slow down once the summer is over in Chicago so there will be more time to enjoy some slower weekends at home and indulge in more baking adventures. I’m one of those that likes to set aside a good chunk of time to bake. I usually put on a period piece or the Great British Baking show and bake up a storm. My speciality is pumpkin bread!
Live the hygge life
You can technically embrace the concept of hygge all year since its about a feeling of warmth and coziness. But, when its getting colder and darker outside there’s no better time than to light some candles, read a good book, or enjoy a warm cup of soup.
Decorate
I don’t really “decorate” my home for spring and summer, but as soon as Fall hits I turn into Martha Stewart and whip out the wreathes, scented candles, and pumpkins. Something I enjoy is trying to find Fall decor that is both natural and neutral. I’m not a fan of the typical “orange and black” Halloweeny decor and like to keep things more elegant looking so look to blues, browns, and creams for my inspiration.
Pumpkin carving
One tradition that Ted and I have kept over the last few years is to carve pumpkins. We always pick out pumpkins that match our body types (I got for the small ones while Ted picks the most massive pumpkin he can find). We put on Sleepy Hollow and have a fun night together carving.
