Back in October the popular beauty and skincare brand Glossier set up a pop up shop in the West loop of Chicago. So many of my favorite beauty bloggers and youtubers (I’m looking at you Matilda 🙂 ! ) have raved about their products that I had to give the line a try.
The pop up shop was very cute – white washed walls with pink minimalist décor and filled with friendly associates wearing pink jump suits. I went twice since I’m often in Chicago’s West Loop, and the second time there was even a line. That’s how popular this brand is! I bought:
- Priming Moisturizer Rich
- Moisturizing Moon Mask
- Boy Brow in Brown
- Super Bounce – Hyaluronic Acid B5 Serum
- Cloud Paint in Dusk
Priming Moisturizer Rich
I’ve been using the Priming Moisturizer Rich for a few months and love it. It goes on top of my morning serum and sunscreen to add an extra bit of moisture to my face. It comes in a lovely pot that feels heavy to the touch and not cheap. The smell is like lavender and utterly heavenly which adds an extra bit of aromatherapy to my day since lavender is so calm and soothing. I have already purchased another one for when my original pot wears out.
Moisturizing Moon Mask
The moon mask I won’t be repurchasing – its not bad, but its not great either. I find that my skin is better hydrated from other masks that I’ve been using including my Fresh Rose Face Mask and Re:Beauty’s Moisturizing Overnight Mask. So I’m sure it works well for other people, but for folks with really dry skin like me, I need a bit more.
Boy Brow
I also wanted to try out the famous Glossier Boy Brow and have to say its quite nice. It looks natural and is easy to apply. In the past I tried out eye brow products that were just too intense and made me look like Frida but not in a good way. The boy brow makes it look natural enough that it just looks like I have well-filled eyebrows!
Super Bounce
I was a little disappointed with this since I had seen so many youtubers and bloggers rave about how hydrating hyaluronic acid is. Maybe my skin is just too dry and I need more heavy duty creams. Or maybe my expectations were just too high. I won’t repurchase since I use other serums that are more hydrating but if you’re looking for moisture and you’re skin isn’t quite as dry as mine, I think it could work!
Cloud Paint
This blush was actually quite nice. A little goes a long way so it justifies the $18 price tag a little more. Still you can find cheaper blushes that work just as nicely for less. I love the packaging and the Dusk color worked well for my skin tone.
The Verdict
I’ll definitely be repurchasing the moisturizing primer, boy brow and cloud paint. But found that two of the three skincare products that I tried (the Moon Mask and Super Bounce) were just not as hydrating as I needed. Skincare is so personal and everyone’s skin reacts to products differently so others I know have really positive experiences.
With that said I came in for the skincare, but came away loving their makeup more (Boy Brow and Blush) so will be exploring more of their makeup line in the future.
So if you were wondering about the Glossier hype I say it really depends on what personally works for you. It may be your holy grail, but don’t feel bad if it doesn’t work for you!
