Cozy Winter Simmer Pot

January is a time to live out the values of hygge – being cozy and creating a warm atmosphere are my goals in life.  Over the weekend I wanted to try another simmer pot recipe – this one with winter themes. It made the house smell heavenly and is a great, non-toxic way to scent your home. It’s also an affordable alternative to candles if that’s not your thing.

I love simmer pots because I also find them extremely beautiful. They could make great gift or favor idea for a party if given in a clear glass jar. The ingredients almost always contain natural elements like plants or fruits and look gorgeous suspended in water. The prep is also simple since you just have to put everything in one container.

Simmer Pot Ingredients
  • Cinnamon essential oil
  • Pine sprigs (save them from your Christmas tree if you had a real one, I kept a small basket of sprigs from mine!)
  • Cinnamon sticks
  • A splash of almond or jojoba oil

Directions

Throw everything into a pot – pour water in so all the contents are covered. Place on your stove. Keep the content at a low simmer and just remember to add water throughout the day so the contents don’t burn. That’s it ! I had this going over the weekend for a good eight hours while I cleaned the house and caught up on some future blog posts.

The scent is very “cinnamony” and there’s just a hint of the pine. When Ted and I left the house I was told we smelled like cinnamon, which I’m not going to complain about. I hope you enjoy and let me know how it goes if you try it!
