Because at the end of the day Valentine’s day is about love. So love your partner, love your friends, and love yourself! Read on to find an activity that brings you some joy!
Have a meal at the Allis
The Allis is one of my favorite spots and quite romantic for Valentine’s day. Enjoy the brunch, make it a dinner, or just sip on some tea – the luxe ambiance and candlelight will make you feel warm and cozy.
Take advantage of free Chicago museum days
Chicago is home to some of the world’s greatest museums and in the winter they have free days for Illinois residents. Click this link to find the free dates for 2019 and make a date of it. My favorite museum in the city is the Art Institute – I can spend hours exploring the paintings, sculptures, and other artsy tidbits the museum houses.
Take a winter walk along the lake or nature conservatory
There is nothing more refreshing to me than a winter walk. The lake and winter woods are actually quite beautiful when covered in snow and ice so bundle up and take a stroll.
Take a cooking class
Chicago is filled with fun cooking classes that are a perfect for dates and group activities. Try booking a course at the Chopping Block located in Merchandise Mart or learn how to make fresh baked bread at Le Pain Quotidien located just outside the Ogilvie French market.
Take a crafting workshop
The maker’s movement is in full swing and Chicago and shops like Gathered Boutique & Workshop and Indigo & Violet Studio offer a wide range of craft classes that are a perfect way to spend an afternoon.
Take the Chicago Valentine’s Day Massacre Tour
I recently discovered Weird Chicago Tours and this city has some amazing, and sometimes odd history. Take a walk back into Chicago’s old mob days and learn about the Valentine’s Day Massacre! It may not be very romantic but its a conversation starter for sure.
Listen to romantic jazz and enjoy southern style food at the Front Room
This West Loop restaurant has the ambiance of an old New Orleans jazz lounge and the tasty southern food to match. Ted and I went for my birthday and the the jambalaya is amazing! The chandeliers and candle light make this such a romantic spot for Valentine’s Day.
