I received so many kind words and compliments on all of my home tour posts and am so thankful! I’ve been told I have a distinct decorating style and wanted to share some of my “go to basics.” I’ve developed a strong collection of home goods that I reuse and move around when I want to give my space a new feel.
The fantastic thing about this is, if you buy the right basics upfront, you don’t have to go out and spend money every time you want to make your home feel fresh. So just like a capsule wardrobe, these are my capsule home goods.
Straw baskets
Buy a bunch in different sizes, textures, and weaves. They are perfect for staying organized and keeping messier, but necessary items hidden from view. Plus the straw adds a pop of natural warmth to my home that I love. Buying these at Home Goods or Target are a great way to keep things cost effective.
Platters and trays
Grouping smaller items on trays or platters helps keep things from looking cluttered and messy. Look for ones made from natural materials like wood, straw, and even stone so they’re easier to match. Plus its easy to change these out when you need a new look. One of my favorites is this marble tray from Crate & Barrel.
Printed Rugs
I’m not big on color but where I make an exception is my rugs. I love the look of colorful richly patterned Persian rugs. They are a great way to add detail and fun in my mostly neutral, white home. Overstock is my go to for rugs – I bought this one for my kitchen recently and love it.
Vintage Books
This is a style choice that not everyone may like, but I’m a book lover so I’m all about using the beauty of vintage books. I love their faded color and embossed details. I use them to add height and texture where needed. You can pick them up from vintage stores or even your local library book sale in the color family that best suits your home.
Prints & Artwork
I’m always rearranging my prints. Lately I’ve been into oils on canvas that I’ve been finding in antique shops. I like to lean the frames across shelves and tables since this way I don’t have to put a hole in the wall and it makes it more feasible to move around. Simply moving a few items (especially those statement pieces) will really make a room feel different when you need.
